Preemie not eating the same
We’re in the NICU because my baby was born at 35 weeks and only weighed 3 pounds and 3 ounces. She’s made progress and would be ready to go home but she just needs to gain weight... this whole time I’ve been breast feeding or bottle feeding with breast milk.. today the nurse suggested that I allow them to add calories to my milk so she can gain the weight she needs to go home. So I gave them permission (even though I don’t like the ingredients in formula) and now she won’t take my breast as well. She will latch for only 5ish minutes and actually feed. And then after that I can get her to latch but she won’t drink anything.. Is this cause of the increased calories? How am I supposed to get her to gain the weight if she won’t eat. I’m not sure if the calorie increase will make her gain or not. I am so overwhelmed with this whole thing that I could cry. She also didn’t fall asleep or seem full after her feeding and I asked the nurse several times and she told me she was fine... I just don’t know if I should tell them I don’t want the extra calories and try to go back to just breast milk or if I should just see what happens with her weight. Anyone else experience the same thing?
