Food stamps/SNAP?

Question

If you were just about to move into a home for the first time and have two kids and you make below the maximum for SNAP eligibility,
Would you use it? 
Theoretically we should be able to afford enough food to get us by but that’s if we are very very careful with our budget and nothing unexpected pops up.  
My husband has brought it up and I don’t know what to do.  There is nothing wrong with people who need help getting it.  But a part of me would feel so guilty.   Because if we track everything enough and be very very savvy and smart we should be fine.  Unable to save for a while but fine. 
But I don’t know if that’s going to be the reality or not.  
Advice would be appreciated

Nothing wrong with using programs on the short term until you are fully able to support your family yourself...
As a college student I got pregnant unexpectedly, I was really embarrassed for applying for assistance. I ended up with WIC, medicaid, my baby will end up on CHIP and I’ll probably qualify for SNAP here soon. With that being said I just have to remind myself it’s only temporary and that I’m contributing to society by finishing my education so I can provide for my daughter on my own in a 2 years.

I would.  I applied for food stamps despite still living at home since I qualified (it was only about $40 a month and I only had it for a few months) and I used what I got to buy my lunches for work and help with groceries for the house.
I don't see anything wrong with getting government assistance if you qualify for it.  IMO, every little bit helps.

There is nothing wrong with getting help from the government. Especially if you really need it. There is a huge difference between needing it and using it short term and working towards not having rather than sitting on your butt doing nothing and living off the government for the rest of your lives. I know people who have used it including myself for a few months or up to a year while trying to get on our feet. I also know people who have had it for 10 years and does nothing but sitting at home not trying to get a job or anything.

Use it. No sense in making yourself feel guilty or like you have to be 100% broke to be on it. If you’re in the income requirements (which you said you are), get it while you need it.

The system is put in place and paid for with tax dollars (yours included) to help people in need.  If you qualify and accept it, maybe it’ll give you the opportunity to save a little and not live the stressful paycheck to paycheck cycle.  I’d imagine being approved isn’t instantaneous, so if an unexpected expense did come up you’d be behind versus breaking even.  The guidelines are there for a reason, if you qualify I don’t think you should feel badly about taking the assistance. Good luck!

Use it so you can save for an emergency. Who knows when your car will breakdown or you have a medical emergency. You don't want to be late on rent due to life hitting you in the wallet.

Even when you’re on it use coupons, it will help a lot. I was on them for 4 months when I moved into my place for the first time. Once I got more on my feet I got off of them. Which is how it’s supposed to be instead of people just relying on them 100%. You also have to have a part time job atleast to “prove” you’re trying to better yourself. Which you won’t have a problem with as you stated above.

Absolutely use it if you qualify and it will help you. They’re pretty strict about qualifying so if your income rises above the maximum, it will be taken away. I would definitely apply for it.
