Gfs cat died and I want to know how to cheer her up

I’ve been dating this girl for 7 months. She had 2 cats and recently one was put down for medical reasons. She was really heartbroken and she posted twice on her Snapchat about how much she missed her. I felt really bad and I really want to help her. I texted her and told her that I was there for her and I told her that I could even imagine how she was feeling. I want to know if I did the right thing. I really love this girl and I want her to feel like she is heard.
