How often do you get an MRI?

I have been through three MRI’s in the past 2 weeks. Brain, thoracic and Cervical. The last two were done together and were very hard to get through( took about 1 hr and 20 min). I’m curious how frequently you have gone through an MRI? And also if you have ever opted for an open MRI instead of a traditional one. Thanks in advance.

I’ve had 2 since dx in May 2015 (and 1 additional for that dx). I asked for the first one year post dx, and my neurologist ordered one for me 6 mo postpartum. My neuro doesn’t think they are necessary if there isn’t any other new symptoms. Mine are usually 2-2.5 hours by the time they do the contrast for brain & cervical. 
I just read an article about a new study this week that said that if you use the newer machines with the highest quality technology, you don’t need contrast. I’d have to find a place by me that has that good of a machine.  But it might be worth skipping the contrast and the extra time.

Answer

I get one every six months.  It takes 2 hours on the table.  Rough.  And then I'm tired and sore after.  Not my favorite part.
