Breastfeeding with bleeding nipples??

I am starting to look at different things about breastfeeding and saw it’s common for your nipples to crack and bleed. I also read that you are supposed to keep breastfeeding your baby if that happens and if they spit up blood or if there’s blood in their diaper that’s completely normal? Uhhh what? Does anyone know if that is really the case?

I breastfed 2.5 years and let me tell you if you 
1. Practice effective latching techniques 
2. Get some nipple cream
3. Practice good nipple hygiene 
Nipple cracking and bleeding (I cannot say will not) but is less likely to happen. If it does, get some nipple shields until it is healed! Hope this helps.

Get an organic nipple cream. You will use this more than you think and if you get an organic one it’s safe to nurse baby with it on. I used this one. It’s a bit pricier than regular but you don’t have to wash it off before nursing and it worked best for me.

I learned the hard way with my first that you should not allow them to nurse with a bad latch....pop them off and try again if it isn’t quite right. I could have saved myself a lot of pain....

Like everyone said get some nipple cream and use it a lot lol. It can be hard/ easy to get a good latch depending on your anatomy but don’t worry too much about it just get all the supplies you think you may need for you’re comfort I definitely wouldn’t skimp in this area.  I found that disposable breast pads are the super rough on my nipples and I couldn’t deal with them at all. I personally would recommend having some washable soft bamboo nursing pads on hand to prevent more irritation. Also I loved a product called boobie tubes they’re great for when you’re first starting and you’re boobs are sore. You can heat them up or put them in the freezer and they wrap around your boob while you’re feeding they were a life saver for me.

Definitely use nipple cream. Mine never cracked or bled just became extremely sore. My first wasn’t too rough but my second was very rough and he just wanted to pull all the time. So I had to be sure to always have cream on!!! 
Now with the blood in spit up and/ or in their stool that will be something to get ahold of the pediatrician for. My first 2 ended up with blood in their stool after so many months and turned out they had a diary allergy so I had to cut out all dairy for several months until they got a little older.

A nipple shield is also an option if they become cracked/bleeding. Sort of a plastic disc that goes between you and baby’s mouth. This was a lifesaver for a few of my friends.
