What do I need to know about Nuchal Scans?

Im having a nuchal scan at my booking appointment on Tuesday at 12 weeks. I know this is usually standard practice in other parts of the world but where I live we don't get it offered unless we have history of chromosome abnormalities in previous pregnancies. I lost my daughter to Turner Syndrome back in July and it went undetected until the 20 weeks scan (if we had the nuchal scan at 12 weeks it would have been picked up waaaay earlier so they're going to do it for me this time round!)
Is there anything I need to know?
Has anyone had a healthy pregnancy after one with chromosome issues?
I'm so nervous 😫

I just had mine done this morning. They check the fluid behind the neck and the tech told me that anything below 2cm is considered normal but that it isn't always the case (she saw a baby that had 7cm of fluid behind the neck and the baby was perfectly fine). Most of the time it's correct but not always. They also prick your finger and get some blood to do further testing to see if there's any elevated risk for the defects. Super easy and you get to see the baby for a little bit, especially if the baby is like mine and didn't want to get into a good position to check for a while haha

I just had one. They did an ultrasound in addition to some blood work. From my understanding they are measuring the fluid around the baby’s neck though I can’t say what would be considered normal/abnormal amounts.  I haven’t gotten my results yet. It was just done on Wednesday. Hoping for the best for you and me!

I also recently lost my daughter to Turner syndrome at 21 weeks in October of 2018. We found out very early because she had a cystic hygroma, which is fluid built up on the back of the neck at 10 weeks. This is 12 week scan is very normal. I’m due with baby #2 and go for my scan next week at 13 weeks. I’m so scared and nervous as well and I will pray your baby is healthy!
