VBAC’s- yes or no?
Hello! I am currently 8 weeks pregnant with my third child. My first pregnancy was a twin (identical) birth at 34 w 5 d. I had everything go wrong that possibly could- gestational diabetes, preeclampsia and toxemia so severe I had an emergency C-section ten days early. I had sort of a traumatic experience with it, and even though my girls ended up being perfectly healthy after ten days in the NICU, the whole ordeal was very difficult and painful and worst of all, I didn’t get a choice in any factor of my delivery. So this time I want to do it differently. This will be my last pregnancy, and I have always wanted to give birth naturally. So this is my last chance to experience that.
I spoke to two different practices while exploring my options for delivery. My regular ob’s office said they will not induce my labor after a c-section. They basically do not support or advise VBAC. My only opportunity to have a natural birth is if I go in to labor on my own before 39 weeks and if I do, I can “try” for a VBAC, but they will not give any medication such as pitocin to help the labor along. They said because of the previous C-section the old scar could rupture and that could be dangerous for me as well as the baby. I also saw a midwife who works with an ob at a hospital, and they are all for VBAC. They will carefully induce my labor with a continuous internal monitor to make sure my uterus and the baby are both holding up through the process.
I really want to go for the VBAC but it is confusing to get such conflicting opinions and I am really struggling with which practice I should go with. Does anyone have experience with VBAC or a midwife? I am new to both. I really appreciate your opinion here!!
