How do you pronounce the name Clara and how difficult do you think it would be to insist on prounouncing it the other way?

To me Clara is ARE and Claira is AIR.

Pretty hard to get it pronounced with the 'are' sound. Clara is a fairly old name that has been pronounced with the 'air' sound. All through out her life, she would be correcting the pronunciation of her name.

I speak English and German so when I read it in English, I pronounce it “claireuhh” but when I read it in German, I pronounce it “khlarruhh”. So I guess both? I voted AIR because I feel like most English speaking people or primarily English speaking countries would.

Depends if I’m speaking English or Spanish for me. You can tell people until you are blue in the face but in the end it won’t matter. My daughters name is pronounced ju-leesa but everyone always says ja-lissa and it drives me crazy and I’ve clarified a bazillion times but it doesn’t matter bc they don’t listen 🙄

As someone with an unusual but pretty name I beg parents not to do it to their child. They will spend their life correcting people who aren’t wrong. It’s a pain in the ass.

I had a friend when I was younger whose name was Tara. 
But not pronounced like a rip sound ie, tear-uh, but tah-rah. 
She had to re-pronounce her name to everyone, always. But once you knew, you knew. And tbh, it fit her so well- kind a ‘marched to the beat of her own drummer’ kind of girl. 
So it depends on how you feel in a situation where people will likely pronounce it one way - and having to clarify it’s really different

I'm in the US and I named my daughter Clara with the AIR pronunciation. I think only once did someone pronounce it the other way but it was easily corrected. Perhaps we will have to correct it more often when she's in school, but for now it's not a big deal. We call her Clara Bear 🐻
