Sick relatives?

Is it rude for me to not want to visit with people who are sick? I'm 22 weeks pregnant and my son is 18 months old.. I dont want to come across petty, but I can't take any medications if I get sick, and my son and I have been lucky enough not to catch anything yet. My husbands grandparents are in town and his grandpa is sick with a bad cold. They have pretty poor boundaries and I know they wouldn't keep their distance if we go see them. I'm just already in a difficult place with my husbands mom because shes just so pushy and constantly pushing my boundaries... I dont want to seem like an asshole.. but I also really dont want to catch anything? Sick and pregnancy dont go together well. Any advice on how to handle this? Do I just need to suck it up and go?  I have already received 6 text messages from my mother in law asking us to come sooner than we planned ( which was for dinner) and telling us to just load up on vitamins because they are sick.

I would not go. She’s not respecting your boundaries or thinking about your best interest, but actually doing the exact opposite. I would have your husband call or text her and simply say we won’t be coming, my wife & unborn baby’s health and well-being is more important than people’s feelings 🤷🏻‍♀️ and if he can’t do that you’ll have to be the one even though I hope he can protect you and stand up for you seeing especially as it’s his family that is pressing you. At the end of the day you gotta do what’s best for you 👍🏼 and hopefully your husband can put his foot down and set boundaries with his mom and family members now before baby comes or it will only get much worse

I cancelled on my cousin because she is still getting over a stomach bug or norovirus. It’s not with it in my opinion!! I can tell she is upset but is trying to be respectful. Definitely stay firm with your boundaries!

Don't feel bad! You have to stay healthy for your little ones. Stay away from sickness and say you'll see them again when they're feeling better.

Oh hell no. They’re not respecting YOUR health, the health of the baby in your tummy, or the health of your 18 month old. That’s a hard no from me. I would just say I’m not comfortable going to an event where me or my child could leave, sick, since both of our immune systems are compromised. (18 month old because they’re still little and you because you’re pregnant.)

My in laws just left having stayed at my house for a week. Turns out they were sick right before coming to stay with us and chose not to tell me. Now I have the worst sore throat I’ve ever had and am feeling crappy, my toddler is also really clingy and snuggly today and doesn’t seem to feel great. I know they didn’t tell me because I would have asked them to move their trip but it’s SO RUDE to spread your germs (in general but also) to someone who can barely take any medication!

I would just say no and that you cant risk you and either of your babys health and be like I'm sure you could understand that. Ots not worth getting sick and being miserable and possibly having complications. If they cant understand or respect that it's their issue not yours. Everyone I know is very respectful saying keep your distance or let's postpone getting together if they're not feeling well. Dont let her bully you into it.

Pretend you guys are already sick! 😂 I’ve heard my friends do that a lot before. Even when I’ve made plans with them and I wasn’t sick - they have still used that as an excuse lol. Then plan a visit in the near future to make up for it :)
