Living with IN-LAWS?

Question

Does anyone else live with or have lived with the in-laws? How is it for you? How much space do you have that is "yours"? How long do you plan on staying? What issues do you run into?

Currently living in the in-laws house. We have a separate entrance and our own deck. We have a bedroom, kichenette area, bathroom, and large living room. We can have as much or as little interaction with them as we please. It's not ideal but we've paid off 4 credit cards (with debt), a wedding loan, school loan, and all car payments by staying here. We pay rent ($600/month) which is way cheaper than renting around here. Now that we've paid off most of our debt we hope to start saving for a down payment.

When I started living with my husband when we were just dating we lived with his family. We had 1 bedroom worth of space that was considered ours. It was terrible. Of the 8 kids there was 7 living there including him plus 5 significant others of those 7 kids. Plus a new born. We moved out as soon as we could. Which was a year and a half. It sucked. But I do know people that love living with their in laws. There was just too many people in this house.

I do & I love it! Being that I'm 18 & all.... I love my mil, she looks out for me & my hubby. She's the mom I've always wanted. (Affectionate wise, I love my biological mother too). She talks to me & my hubby whenever we have a problem & takes us places. We have our own room & the game room is pretty much ours.

I currently do and i have since i was young (when i left high school) We have been looking to buy for the last yr now but we have no space our bedroom thats it. House has 3 lounge rooms so were not cramping each other but its not my house nor does it feel like home. Biggest problem is privacy and not being able to see each other much due to a full house. We have 2 bathrooms and we use one aswell as his dad which i clean multiple times a week as there is dirt and clothes everyday which i clean up after. When i go to cook the pots are still filled with oil where as i clean up straight after i cook and eat. Cant have people over and we have a dog which is constantly getting feed junk food and we are trying to get him back to a healthy weight with better food and struggling due to them constantly feeding him pizza, chips ect. I do our washing but whenever she will throw a load on alot of our clothes get lost and ee never see them again so i have to litterly have dirty clothes in a basket in our bedroom. They are lovely in laws though and have done alot for us but doesnt matter who it is living with someone you will always run into issues. I just want my own house so we can run it how we want.
