How Will I Possibly Love Another?! 🥺

Question

Anyone else expecting baby #2 & just get overwhelmed thinking about loving another child as much as they already love their firstborn?! I know my heart will only grow but right now it just doesn’t seem possible! Picture of the little girl that is my whole world! 💞

I just recently had my second and I can’t tell you that it really will grow. You won’t feel it until the new baby is here, but it will happen. I actually cried for hours the day before my induction because I thought I was being selfish to my son. My husband thought I was a crazy person. I also couldn’t believe that he wasn’t going to be my baby anymore. But now my daughter is here and he loves her too. He always says “awwww, baby sister!!” And pets her head or points out that she has feet and toes. He loves to hug her and sit on his couch with her. The only fights we have are when I try to let her use one of his blankets.

Photo of my heart. She is just shy of 9 months and I am 16/17 weeks with #2 and I couldnt think of anything but that it was cutting our time short and how would I love another baby as much but seeing her get excited when we do preps for the new baby and the way she beams when I show her the ultrasounds makes me realize I am not the only one who is going to love this baby. When my daughter heard the baby's heartbeat she wanted to cuddle me and she has already started to try to play with the baby. She kisses my tummy and pats it and cuddles up to it on my bed and falls asleep there. This isnt just a sibling its her new bestfriend. It's really helped me to realize I have enough love to give them both and they will love eachother also.

TOTALLY felt the same way while pregnant with my second...I was ugly crying at the hospital when I was about to be induced because I was going to be away from my first baby. Also, would my “big” guy (2yrs 2mo when his brother was born) be jealous? Sad? Resentful?
Not only did I love the little one right away, my oldest didn’t seem affected. He’d occasionally say “hi baby brudder”, pat him on the head and then run off to play with his cars. Flash forward to now: I have a 3yo and an 11mo who interact, play together (to an extent) and I love them both so much!  My “big” guy proudly tells others about “his baby” and I love them both even more when I hear that. 
It’s weird to wrap your head around, normal to feel that way and yet on the end it’ll totally work out!!

That’s exactly how I feel!! I’m 24 weeks with baby #2 and my first is 17 months next week. He’s 100% a momma’s boy and very clingy and I love all the time I get with him, so thinking of having to give that attention to 2 just seems like it will be so hard! I told my husband he’ll have to have the next one get attached to him more so my son won’t feel left out and I won’t feel too overwhelmed 😂

I'm always surprised to hear this for mommies. Im not even trying for my second (not my choice) and I already love any baby that may make it's way to me now or in the future. But I suppose I can understand how someone could feel this way. You give so much love to your first. Is there any left for another? 
I have a friend who said the same thing and as soon as her little boy was in her arms she was in love. She told me she wasnt sure how she could have even felt that way and that she even felt embarrassed a bit. 
Love is a special wonderous thing. When it comes to our children it's the easiest thing to achieve. You'll find it once that little one is in your arms.

My son, my first, is my soulmate. I loved him for a million years. I dreamt of him years before I had him and my soul ached for him. I knew I was pregnant even when I was getting negative tests. I was immediately connected. Felt his flutters at 12/13 weeks. He is everything. I’m pregnant with number 2 and feel nothing but guilt. Guilt for my first because I’m scared I’ll take myself from him. Guilt for the 2nd because I don’t feel that immediate connection I had with my son. I constantly hear your heart grows. But I’m so scared It won’t. Or that It won’t be until the next one is born and then I didn’t love my pregnancy.

Enjoy the time alone with them, I recall this feeling and your love just grows, you love each child differently but just as much, you'll see when they come :) but I think it is an adjustment because you miss a little bit of the 1st baby because the new one takes up all your time, just try to make time for her as much as you can when baby is sleeping, let her stay up late and eat ice cream with you, I promise she'll be fine ;) me and my little 3 year old (first born) have brother free time every night when he goes to bed two hours before her.

We are TTC #2 and I was thinking along the same lines before we started trying. “how will I love my second baby as much as my first?” My son is my entire world right now and his siblings will never get the same one on one time and attention he has with us now. 
But I just read an article about the second child and this topic. You will never love the second child the same as the first because you will love your children uniquely. That really resonated with me because I was scared of having a second one because it felt selfish to have so much alone time with our first and the second was never going to be our only attention like he was. But we will love the second baby as uniquely as we do our first baby.

I, and I think a lot of mommies, were in tears up to the birth in the same fear! Fortunately I labored at home and by the time I left for the birthing center I was at 8cm and couldn’t focus on anything so I really didn’t have time to think about leaving my son and got a picture with him between contractions before getting in the car. But that morning I was a total wreck. My labor was well over 24 hours so when I woke up in the morning and the contractions were still going I crawled into my sons bed and just snuggled him and cried. I ate every meal with him and tried to make it special. He went with me and my mom on a walk around the neighborhood while I had to stop every four minutes to breathe through a contraction. I think that’s why I made it so long at home as I just wasn’t ready to let go of those last minutes of him being my only baby (and he was 20 months that very day, so still young). But then his little brother entered the world and my heart exploded. I couldn’t wait to get him home to meet his brother. Yes, our life changed. But it wasn’t sad, or unfair. Suddenly my oldest had a best friend, a life long brother. Suddenly I enriched his life with joy. I would lay his baby brother down in a baby chair and he’d tuck him in with blankets, rub his head, and give him kisses. They’re 10 months and 2 1/2 now and they are little menaces together. The baby like to crawl-chase the two year old around the house while they both squeal in delightment. Yesterday I put them together in a wagon and went for a walk and whole time big bro kept feeding his little bro gold fish and pointing out the names of things around him to teach him. His heart doubled just as ours did. It’s normal to not feel this yet. I’m pretty sure almost every mother goes through this. But yours, and you daughters life is just about to get doubled with love.
