Early miscarriage, sharp cramping 5 days later
My husband and I conceived our first within 1.5 months of being married. We didn’t expect it to happen so fast but we’re so thrilled. From the month after he was born we continued to have unprotected sex. Not intentionally trying but obviously open to it. After a year of not getting pregnant we decided to be more proactive about it (trying to track my cycles, being intimate more often, taking prenatals again, etc) but another year passed without getting pregnant. We went to doctors who sent us to other doctors and so on and on and on. They ruled everything out, said we were healthy and young enough and they didn’t know what was wrong. May 2019 will mark 5 years of trying. On March 18th I took a pregnancy test and it came out positive! First positive in 5 years. We were so full of relief and excitement! I had put off taking a pregnancy test for about 2-3 weeks but finally my husband had convinced me to take one. (I’m irregular and we’ve been moving across the country so I chalked up my lateness to be from how sensitive my cycle seems to be to stress). I was guessing to be about 6-8 weeks along because of when I *think* I ovulated. By the 22nd in the evening I started spotting and Saturday was heavily bleeding (heavy for me. Filled 1 pad in 5 hours but had a LOT of clots in the toilet throughout the day) I didn’t have any cramping though. Went to the ED and they were no help at all. Finally went to my first midwife appointment on the 26th where she took a pregnancy test that came back negative and she confirmed it had been a miscarriage. I have only had mild abdominal discomfort off and on but today, 5 days since the bleeding stopped, I’m having really sharp low low abdominal cramping. Is that normal? Its Friday now so our midwives don’t take patients unless it’s urgent over the weekend so I don’t want to bother them if this is normal. I can’t find anything about it online other than when it says ‘cramping for 1-2 days after is normal. Does that imply this isn’t? I’m also sick with a head cold and have been coughing constantly since Saturday so I’m not sure if that’s playing some part (it’s definitely not a muscle soreness type pain. Feels like some period cramping). The whole thing is still so hard to wrap my head around. I can’t believe our dreams felt so fulfilled and then shattered within a week.
