My first wasn’t in his crib until he was 8 months old. So he was fully capable of moving around very well on his own if necessary. I was against the crib bumpers until I put him in his crib and he kept getting his arms and legs stuck in the rails and would wake up screaming and stuck. I went and bought a breathable mesh crib bumper and had no problems with it at all, plus it kept him from stick his legs and arms through. So I wouldn’t use it when they’re teeny tiny, but once they’re able to lift their head and move I think it’s okay. 😊
