Why are people getting induced?

Question

As labor is approaching, I’ve seen so many posts about women having to be induced? Most women is getting induced at 38 or 39 weeks. Is that common for doctors to do? I’ve seen that inductions can increase a c-section? Can someone share how early they was induced or how late and the reason why? Did you have a vaginal birth or emergency c-sections? If offered an induction with no medical problems, could I deny it or prolong it? Any tips or feedback would be great :)

Women and doctors are impatient and overlook the risks because they want it over with.  Sometimes it’s necessary, but not early as often as it’s happening.  
My first was an induction for preeclampsia and I said I would never be induced again.  I think the induction was unnecessary in the first place because my preeclampsia was well under control when they did the induction.

I am being induced this pregnancy, Baby #3, at 39 weeks. With my first two kids my labor came naturally on its own, my first baby at 38 weeks 2 days and my second baby at 40 weeks on the day. With my second labor and delivery, from my first contraction to the time I was holding my son in my arms in the hospital, was under 2 hours. That's considered a precipitous labor. His birth was extremely traumatic for both of us and he ended up in the NICU for a week with complications from being born so fast. I had pretty awful tearing, bleeding, a D&C and infection afterwards, and alot of trauma to work through from how fast and furious everything happened. I barely made it to the hospital. I had no time for an epidural. I went into a panic attack because everything was happening so fast and so painful at the same time. My son was 10 lbs and 24 inches long, so a huge baby for my 5'3 and 115lb pre-pregnancy body. That delivery absolutely tore my poor body apart. 
Having described all that, my doctors offered and recommended an induction at 39 weeks this time since my labors are so fast, making them worry that this time with my third baby I wouldn't make it to the hospital in time. I am absolutely on board with that, and very happy to start labor if my body is willing and ready after 39 weeks in a hospital setting we're both my son and I can be safe during delivery. 🤷
I think there's lots of different reasons that women are counseled to and choose to have a medically recommended induction, and my story is just one of the very many I'm sure.

I was induced with my first for preeclampsia. I was 36 weeks and my body and baby simply were not ready. It led to a 2 day induction where I was bedridden and unable to eat or drink. By the time I got to pushing, I was exhausted and defeated. I pushed for 3.5 hours because my baby was face up rather than face down. My son spent a week in the NICU because his lungs weren’t quite ready. I am doing everything in my power and my doctor’s power to avoid an induction this time around. I would say to anyone considering an induction that isn’t medically necessary to do plenty of research beforehand. It was not an ideal birth for me.

I’d never voluntarily be induced. I was induced with my son. Started the process at 39+2 and had him at 39+4. I had gestational hypertension.

I’ve been induced three times. The first one because I was 41 weeks and the baby wasn’t coming out on his own. Then again at 40 weeks because something was going on causing my feet and ankle to swell really bad and had something to do with my water.  The third time was because once again the baby just wasn’t coming on his own. All three times there wasn’t any water breakage, any pain, or any contractions. Pretty much nothing. My ob actually encouraged me to continue all the way up until I was 40 weeks unless she saw a reason for an induction. I have never had a csection so I don’t know where that tid bit came from about inductions leading to csection because it’s not true in my case. All my children have been vaginal births and I have four.

There was actually a study that came out last year that said(at least in ftm) that induction at 39 weeks can reduce the risk of c section...the study had about 6000 women in it I believe. My doctors agree with it and are giving me the option to induce at 39 which I’m taking them up on.

I got induced at 37 weeks due to cholestasis, the induction took 3 days and it ended in a emergency c section, I had a really bad experience , they tried everything. I had the cervadil, cytotec, the Foley balloon , pitocin and they broke my water when they started the pitocin.

Because people are impatient.   Now there are genuine health reasons to be induced early but most of the time theres no need.   I was induced at 41 weeks with my first child and he was relatively small and had no complications but I ended up having to have a csection that I feel was secondary to the induction.  Now I'm pregnant with our second I will wait as long as I can to be induced.  A natural labor is usually the smoothest labor

My first was an induction at 34 weeks due to severe preeclampsia. Had no choice! It was a vaginal birth with no complications. 
I'm 27 weeks with baby #2 and have already been told that I will be induced between 36-38 weeks due to my history of preeclampsia and the fact I'm diabetic. Hoping for another successful vaginal delivery. 
Sometimes inductions cant ver avoided but I do wonder why women with  perfectly healthy, full term pregnancies choose to be induced. Impatient I guess 🤷‍♀️

I will be induced at 39 weeks for hypertension. My doctor is not induce happy, but it’s for both my and baby’s safety, the longer you go with hypertension the higher the risk for developing preeclampsia.
