Yarn?

I really want to make a chunky blanket that’s not tiny and would actually cover me 😂 the problem is THE YARN IS SO EXPENSIVE AND IM BROKE 
How can I get yarn that would work for the blanket while not becoming homeless 😂

I’ve brought yarn from thrift store and used that? Kinda sucks cause the colour variety isn’t as wide and they usually don’t have the super thick yarn. 
Or triple up the instructions. Like if you crocheting yarn on three then hook all three. Will make it a lot chunkier but it def isn’t the same as the big yarn. 
Orrr make your own yarn from old T-shirts. It won’t be soft enough for a blanket but you can make some tote bags while you save up. 
Can also make yarn from tape/vhs looks cool but isn’t so cuddle 😂😂😂
