Do I need a breast pump if I’m wanting to breast feed?

Ftm here and I want to breast feed my baby so bad, but the thing is I don’t want to go spending all this money on a breast pump if I don’t need too, I’m thinking about going and buying the Haakaa and pumping one side while feeding her and putting want comes out in the freezer/ refrigerator for later use or if I have her with family etc. would this be okay? Im just trying to not spend 150 on a electric breast pump if I can do the same with a haakaa

Yes, get a pump. You can use it to boost your supply if you need to, or if baby is ever sick and can’t nurse, you can avoid engorgment.
Personally, I found that the haakaa really sucked. It would good for catching let down on the other breast while nursing but I got nothing from trying to actually pump with it.

Just want to point out the Haaka is less of a pump and more of a container to catch the milk from the breast you aren’t feeding from so nothing is wasted. I would recommend getting a pump because you will want to eventually have an hour away or may find yourself ill so you need to have a milk supply that allows for that. See what insurance provides and go from there. My preference is an electric pump (better suction and production) but manual pumps are effective too.

I breastfed for 16 months and only used my pump maybe the first 2 months. Then I just went ebf because she wouldn’t take a bottle 🤷🏻‍♀️ so this time, I’m not getting one. But if you’ve never breastfed before, or plan on other people needing to do some feedings, it would be an essential.

A pump is a not a must but is handy to have sometimes.

I fully planned on breastfeeding and not needing my pump much. 
6 months later and I've been pumping 5-8; times a day since he was born. He doesn't nurse and never really has due to poor latch. No ties. 
Your insurance should cover an electric pump. Take it just in case! A haaka isn't really a pump as it is mostly to catch the letdown you'd otherwise leak into a pad or shirt. It can't empty you the way a pump can.
