Army reserve/AD

So my boyfriend has always wanted to go to the army and now that he is finally going to do it he is considering reserves since he doesn't want to go AD until he can move me in to base. We have heard that to go from reserve to active can be really hard. Does anyone have any advice or suggestion? We want to be well informed but we feel like the recruiter was pushing super hard for him to sign the AD contract asap and leave for boot camp soon. All comments are appreciated thank you.
