HPV...again?

Currently I have HPV, diagnosed in December 2018. I am with a new partner who says his last girlfriend had/has HPV too. That being said let’s just say he has it too. If I have HPV already, would I be risking getting another strain of it again if we were to not use condoms? I don’t want to be fighting another strain of HPV along with the one I currently have, I just see that as more danger and stress on the body.
