Lotus Birth???

Question

Has anybody here hear of, done, or thought about a Lotus Birth? I’ve read different stories and a lady at my job said she did it with all her kids, but only til the placenta stopped pulsating. I don’t want to place a definition on it not truly knowing what the full process is nor knowing how it’s beneficial. Just looking for input of more knowledge about it.

What your coworker is describing is delayed cord cutting, which has a lot of benefits for baby and I plan on doing it. 
A lotus birth is where you leave the placenta attached until it naturally detaches from baby. This can take 3-10 days, and I haven’t heard any scientific benefits, since at that point the placenta is basically a dead organ that you’d have to carry around for like a week. Also if the placenta is left attached too long after pulsating stops, the blood flow can reverse, which seems like it would undo all of the benefits.

There really aren’t any benefits to keeping the placenta attached after the cord stops pulsating which is usually within the first 20 minutes. After that it’s just rotting flesh.

I’ve read its horrible At least in my opinion I wouldn’t do it . . Atleast I mean I’m going to keep the baby on the cord till it clears out and it turn white that’s about it .

I'm a labor doula and it's standard protocol for our Drs and midwives to delay clamping the cord until it stops pulsating. I've asked some of them about a lotus birth just out of curiosity and they have all said the same thing- it has no greater benefit and it's a dead rotting organ that you have to haul around. But everyone is entitled to what they think is best for their body and baby!
