Diagnosed by a psychologist?

It was a huge relief to see a psychologist. It felt like validation. My questions were answered and I was given the tools I need to combat my anxiety and depression.

Diagnosed with what? I mean I see a psychiatrist, so any issues I have are medically backed by a certified doctor. People self dignose all the time and can be very wrong.

I've never been truly diagnosed. I hate to self diagnose, but after feeling this certain way for about 5 years, I'm pretty sure I am based off of what I've learned in health class and AP psychology. It's classified as a prolonged state of feeling worthless and helpless, etc, and dear lord I am there and beyond.
My mom finally took me to the doctor to get it checked out, after not believing it multiple times when I've stated that I think I may be depressed. The thing is, I answered about 5 questions, was prescription Zoloft, and that was the end of it. I want a real diagnoses. I want to know exactly what I have and the severity of it. I'm tired of not knowing. But being a minor and depending on your mother for transportation and providing of insurance information, money, etc, especially when she's very busy and stressed out, makes it nearly impossible.
I want clarification so bad it hurts.
