What does it do? And why do women take it while pregnant?

Answer

It supposedly softens the cervix, but there’s been little evidence to prove this. Some women (and doctors/midwives) swear by it, but a lot of people seem to not be effected by it. And there’ve been no conclusive studies to show it’s effective.
