Who needed a blood transfusion after giving birth?

Ugh I had a terrible delivery!  Epidural didnt work... I tore on the inside causing a ton of bleeding... so much so I needed 3 bags of blood the next day.
I have my beautiful babe now so all worth it but it was awful!

I got a 4th degree tear- lost over 1500mls of blood. I got bolused 6x, 3 units of blood and was on Levophed the till after I got my first unit of blood. Basically, I am lucky to be alive but yes 100% worth it.

I did with my first. Please be kind to yourself as you recover. In my case, I didn't realize how bad I had been feeling until I was "back to normal" - several months later.

oh man :( how much did he weigh? my son was 10 pounds 8 oz and I had an emergency c section after not being able to get him out and I labored with absolutely 0 interventions. I want to try for a vbac next time but am terrified to rip badly since it looks like I have big babies

I didn’t, but only just barely. I didn’t have a great tear, I had placenta acreda. Look up how they treat that, if your feeling brave. So because of that I lost 750ml of blood. The theshold I think they said was 1000ml before transfusion was required. At my level just depended what my blood showed and it recovered nicely.
