how often do you have a childhood birthday party?

a childhood birthday party consisting of inviting people to a place (your house, amusement park, movies, etc.) providing food, drinks, and/or simply paying for a ticket. i don’t know there’s many ways to have a birthday party but you get the gist. for the last 2 years we had a birthday party for my son so this year, he will be 3 and i wanted to have another party but my husband disagrees so i was just wondering how often other parents are celebrating the birth of their little ones? p.s. no we aren’t rich we usually just have a simple party at the house with snack foods and stuff, blow up a kiddie pool, etc.

Every year but it doesn’t need to be a huge expensive thing. Maybe do something bigger every five years or on “special” years like entering double digits (10), sweet 16, etc.

I think it would be confusing if you had a party one year and not the next. Like why was my birthday more important last year than it is this year?

We celebrated my daughter 1st birthday with a big party but subsequent birthdays we decided to take her places to make memories and have experiences instead of just having cake and presents. Her favorite has been traveling to the capital to visit the zoo. She still talks about the trips we've taken for her birthdays. We will do the same with baby #2 once he's born.

My mom has 5 kids, I’m 32 and the youngest is 19 and she has parties for all 5 of us every year. Just the whole family gets together and my mom feeds us the birthday kid’s favorite meal but it’s something we each look forward to. It would be so weird to me to not celebrate my kids’ birthdays every year.

We celebrate each year but not a giant kid party each year. And it doesnt "confuse" my child like another poster said it would. Some years we do one friend and a fun activity. Some years dinner and cake with extended family. Some years a special family activity like a museum or movie. And sometimes we do the big party with all her friends.

We do something every year to celebrate. Her first birthday was a big family party. Her second birthday we took a trip to the aquarium with my parents, then went to dinner with my in-laws. Her 3rd birthday I do not remember. Her 4th birthday, we went to the zoo, had immediate family over for pizza and cake. Then she had a sleepover with her cousin. For her 5th Birthday this year, we are doing a surprise party with all of her classmates and we hired Elsa to come for an hour.

My parents did small parties with 4-5 friends and a sleep over most years and bigger parties with more people on “big” birthdays, which they considered to be 6, 10, 16, & 21. I don’t remember what we did ages 1-5 though. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Growing up my family celebrated birthdays every year. It wasn’t always a big party but we would always have grandparents, aunt uncles & cousins for cake & ice cream at least. Sometimes we did other fun things with friends sometimes we just did something special as a family. I definitely think you should do something special every year.

We usually have a birthday party every year while they are little. Once they hit 6 it becomes every other year and then after we start doing milestone birthdays. It’s mostly to control the cost. We still celebrate every year with like a family dinner or a special shopping day or something like that but the big parties slow down a bit (milestones birthdays are like 10,13,16,18,21, you get the idea) it’s expensive to throw a big bash for all our friends and family every year.
