Is Family allowed Gender Disappointment?

So yesterday I found out I’m having a girl. I wanted a little girl so bad and so badly prayed for it to happen. My mother in law not only forced her way into a special moment for me and my husband but she made it negative.

She started saying “a boy would’ve been better”

And “I’m allowed to be disappointed I’m better with boys” amongst other horrible things and making faces when we went to lunch

This made me feel like crap and I felt like a disappointment because she was disappointed in my child. I was just happy she’s healthy.

So question is family allowed to have gender disappointment in front of the mother? Am I over reacting? I cried so bad.

So “Is it okay for family members to be disappointed about the gender of your child in front of you? Or at all even?
