Soft same as thinned?

Question

I’m 35 wks, my doctor checked my cervix and said her head is nice and low and my cervix is soft. Is that the same as thinned?  Not sure if I should be expecting baby sooner than planned or what🤷🏻‍♀️

I was told the same thing 2 days ago that I was soft but it dilated. I asked if I was thinned and they said no. Soft is a step in the right direction. It has to be soft before you can efface and dilate but your not there yet! Good news is I was told I was just soft and then the next morning (yesterday) i was told I am dilated to 1 cm

I was told my cervix was soft at 28 weeks .. 
I don't think it means much
