Can being overweight (abt 300 lbs) hurt my baby during pregnancy?

Hi! So I’m 23. I just found out I’m pregnant literally yesterday. And being the worrier I am I’ve been reading everything I can on plus size pregnancies and I’m freaking myself out. I just ready an article stating all these birth defect being overweight an cause baby. If you’re overweight did you have a safe pregnancy and what can I do to be as healthy and safe as possible now? I’m so scared!

I was about 315 after I gained about 25 pounds during pregnancy. I had a healthy pregnancy with no issues. I didn’t even develop gestational diabetes. My labor and delivery were complication free minus a reaction to the epidural. I had my son vaginally with minimal tearing. My postpartum recovery was fine without any issues. And best of all my son is healthy and happy as can be! 
My best advice is to avoid as much as you can on the internet. I constantly worried after reading so many things about plus size women being doomed to have all sorts of complications. Obviously there are risks to any pregnancy and being overweight can increase those risks but it’s not something that is automatic. Try to enjoy your pregnancy. It’s amazing what our bodies can do!

Don’t even look on the internet!  I freaked myself out so much I set myself up with a high risk doctor and they were like why are you even here.  I’m 300++ and 34 weeks pregnant with a healthy and perfect baby boy.  I’ve had 0 complications with my pregnancy, passed every GD test, no high blood pressure, and LOST 12 lbs.  Just like everything else in life, don’t let the scale define you!  Or your pregnancy!

Your health pre-pregnancy has more to do with risk factors than simply carrying extra weight. I was 291 when I conceived but very healthy and OB told me that there was every reason to expect a healthy pregnancy. 35 weeks now and she was right.

Girl don't even worry about none of that because my first baby I was 320 and then weight jus keep piling up with my second baby I was 390 and now I'm pregnant again 10 weeks and one day and I am 380 all pregnancies were beautiful went to term, babies came out healthy vaginal nothing to worry about you just make sure you take care of you

I’m 300+ lbs .. on my 2nd child my first daughter I had no issues and a normal birth ... and so far at 34 weeks I’ve had no issues either.

I was 310 when I got pregnant. I’ve had a very healthy and normal pregnancy. Before pregnancy i had hypothyroidism so had to keep an eye on that, and I had a slightly high blood pressure, and about 26 weeks I was diagnosed with hypertension so I’m on medication for that. But other than that everything has been great!

I’m about the same weight and my first pregnancy was healthy.
This time around I have low Papp-A which even skinny women go through. So I’m counting this as normal though higher risk.

I am overweight and everything has been good with the baby and myself other then high blood pressure which i am on meds for and its been regulated. Dont let anyone tell you being overweight you are prone to have more complications im sorry but thats false. I know skinny skinny girls who have had GD snd high blood pressure. It just depends on your body -not your weight. Follow what the dr tells you and youll be fine. Good luck!!!

Being a larger woman itself doesn’t directly harm your baby. 
It does increase your odds for things that could create complications but all of those things can be controlled and monitored. 
You are more likely to get GD: aka gestational diabetes. So watch your carbs. 
You are more likely to get high blood pressure which can lead to preeclampsia. So get a blood pressure machine for home and take your BP 3 times a day. Morning. Lunch. Bed. Make sure your “bottom” number doesn’t get higher than 90. So example: 120/86 is ok. 130/92 not so ok. Sit relax and recheck in an hour. 160/96.... more serious... call your OB
Honestly. My first baby I was 250lbs when I conceived and got to 295lbs when delivered. I have zero of these “complications”. 
My second baby I was 235lbs (ty breastfeeding 😂) got to 312lbs at delivery. Only complication I had was my BP started to climb up near the end. By 12 weeks PP my BP was 210/112 and I had insane headaches. Started BP medication. 
My third baby I was 240lbs and got to 315-318lbs when I delivered. My BP started to climb despite my medication. And after delivery I had my meds increased. Other wise was fine. 
Currently 264lbs; 8 weeks pregnant with twins. We started treating me for preeclampsia (taking extra meds to help prevent it). 
Point of this story is. All of my kids were born happy and completely healthy. 
Don’t let people tell you that your size means your baby will be big or you won’t be able to vaginally deliver your baby. Stand your ground. You got this.

I’m 309, 12 weeks along and lost 20 pounds in the beginning, doctor hasn’t even brought up my weight, says I’m healthy and says the baby is super healthy! And if you’re having anxiety about it, really talk to your doctor. I now have a prescription for anxiety (not saying that’ll be the case) but I feel better. I just do yoga and make sure I’m not eating fried foods or sugar (baby doesn’t like it 😂) every pregnancy has complications, just enjoy the ride 🥰
