Walking shoes

My son is currently 12 and a half months old. He started walking whenever he was 11 months so he’s basically a full time walker now. Whenever we were down at my moms house last weekend she said that I needed to get him walking shoes that have a wooden frame in them to help his feet form and stop wearing the Nike shoes on him that I bought for him. How true is this? My mom is a know it all kind of person lol. I thought all babies feet were flat and that at first they would point inwards or outwards until they got a little older?
