Boyfriend in military and I’m joining? Advice?

Ok so I’ve thought about joining the navy since I was 16 I’m 19 almost 20 now I pushed away the idea because I didn’t want to leave my friends and family behind. My boyfriend recently joined the navy and is currently in subschool but thinking about switching to army. I’ve lost close friendships due to drama and I’ve come to term I gotta live my life since my family is living all of theirs so I don’t really have anything holding me back anymore ! I’m going in to talk to a recruiter soon to get the ball rolling. The only thing I’m concerned about is my relationship with my boyfriend. We have a strong relationship even so far with the long distance which I was worried about before he joined but we’ve been doing great so far! I’m just worried how much harder it will be for us when I join. Just looking for some advice from anyone who is in the military as well as their significant others, aka tips, advice to keep our relationship strong. We’ve talked about marriage and that’s definitely the road we both want to head towards soon. We’re both 19 almost 20 so we don’t wanna get married so young 😂 any positive advice or success stories for some encouragement would be amazing!

I’m dual navy. We met while serving though, but work in two completely different areas. We’re married now and we never even had the difficulties of being far apart until after marriage (we married fast). Between being stationed across the country and deployments it’s hard. It’s really hard. It’s easier to understand when you’re serving as well but there’s a lot of stuff you see wearing the uniform vs being a civilian. For us, bc my husband is awful at communication, we decided to try to talk to each other everyday. Whether it be email, phone, or fucking carrier pigeon, we try to talk everyday. If worst comes to worst then we write on the days we can’t talk. As long as you both trust each other (which is huge-you’re going to be working with a lot of guys and although females are more scarce, they can be just as bad) and really work on communication, you’ll be fine. Marry and you will be co-located. If you’re not then there’s no guarantee you’ll be near each other, but we all end up in Norfolk eventually 🤷🏻‍♀️ good luck, Hun, I love the navy.

My husband are mil to mil Air Force. It’s easier in the fact that we understand each other’s crazy schedules. But we also deal with twice the deployments and tdys. Sometimes we just high five on a rotation and others are gone at the same time. I’ve been married to a civilian and I personally love being mil to mil. Good luck

It’s hard girl! My husband and I have been living apart for a year now and it’ll be another year till we will get collocated. If you’re willing to do it and know what you’re getting into. It’s hard but just focus on communication.

Me and my husband are dual navy. It really boils down to good communication. Me and my husband did a good solid year apart before we got co located. We’re both really great communicators and it helps a ton with the distance
