When to pump...

Question

Exclusively breastfeeding and trying to build up a stash of milk. ...not sure when is the best time to pump?  Like 10 minutes after nursing?  An hour?  Just worried that baby will want to feed right after I pump.  I've pumped a few times and the results are laughable.   I had to pump last week as my baby was in hospital and unable to nurse and I was getting 30-40 ml easy from each breast...now it's like 10 ml maybe.  Any advice would be appreciated!

Here is what I have been told... Establish a schedule and stick to it... When you breast feed pump after baby is done. To maintain pump until milk stops and for about an additional five minutes... When trying to increase feed baby and pump for 5-10 minutes after milk stops flowing. Stay hydrated, apparently that's the most important part!!! But the biggest thing I have heard is to make sure the breast is at least empty!!! Good luck

The best thing to do is nurse on command. And pump one breast while your LO nurses off the other. I'm currently just pumping to build a supply before my LO gets here and I get an oz from each breast. I'm 39 weeks.
