Attending a Funeral??

Question

How do you feel about attending a funeral? I lost a cousin and feel bad to miss it. My mom feels strongly about not being around any negative energy so doesn’t want me to go. I’m a bit easy about it. It will be a big funeral with all my extended family most of whom don’t even know I’m pregnant, and including those who have competitive vibes and will be a bit disappointed to see me pregnant. What should I do?

I’d absolutely go. Being pregnant shouldn’t prevent you from celebrating your cousins life and from finding closure. I think it would be health for your mental health to go. It gives finality and like I said closure

I say live your life as you normally would, and don’t skip it if that would cause more stress and awkwardness. And sometimes sadness and crying can be a very healthy, healing thing to feel. I think funerals can also be celebrations of a person’s life, not necessarily negative

I attended a wake for one of my students when I was 6 months pregnant. It was extremely emotional but I felt like I made the right choice. I got a little closure being there and the family really appreciated it.

In some religions and cultures it’s taboo due to superstition to attend a funeral. In my opinion it’s safe to go to the service but I usually stay away from the burial site.

My grandfather passed away when I was 7 months pregnant with my son.  Only thing I didn't like was people being over concerned about me. It was a hot day when we had grave side service, I was told to sit (I rathered stood in back) and was gave a bottle of water. I started balling when amazing grace was sung and people tried to console me, there was no calming me down I knew physically I was ok, but they was all worried like I was going to go in to preterm labor or something.

Miss my husbands grandfathers headstone unveiling. He’ll have been gone for a year and now were supposed to visit and unveil his tombstone but I have to miss it.

Don’t go. I’ve been in “hiding” per say my entire pregnancy and not because I’m hiding it but I just don’t want any negativity around me and the baby. I’ve been enjoying my sleep and just being a bum trying not to stress about anything. Attending funerals always give me a tired and head ache feeling BUT you do what you feel right in your heart. I just feel like carrying unnecessary conversations with people you won’t ever see again in years is pointless but on the other side I understand paying respects to your cousin
