Pump issues? Can hand express more than pump

Question

I have tried pumping with my double electric pump and have gotten ok results. Even after I move my nipple around the flange to stimulate different parts of the breast and get multiple let downs, I will get tons of milk from hand expressing afterwards. Is this normal, or is my pump not extracting milk efficiently?

Not at all- that’s completely normal. Know that your pump has limitations. In fact, everyone should hand express after pumping in order to make sure you’re getting your hindmilk, which is the thicker, more nutrient dense milk. Plus hand expressing ensures that your breasts are completely empty. A pump will only get you so far.
