Sudden bleeding 10 days before period

Sorry for the long story! I’m not sure what’s going on. This afternoon my husband and I were being intimate and randomly we both stopped and I pulled away. I had no reason to ask but I said “am I bleeding?”. To my surprise he said yes. My period doesn’t start for another 10 days. The blood covered half a bath towel. Bright/darkish red. No cramps just random. I sometimes start my period while we are intimate but never this early and never this much! I put in a tampon and changed it around 5 hours later and it was dry. I thought everything was fine until I started cramping. I’ve been cramping pretty uncomfortably since but no signs of blood at all since this afternoon. I will add that my period started four days late this month (which means I totally skipped a period technically before it started). It only lasted three days, not very heavy (usually lasts 4 at most 5 days and usually two of those days are very heavy) . April 2nd - April 4th I was on my period. We had a heat of the moment incident April 5th and did not use protection. I’ve taken two hpt’s but I’m not sure if it’s too early (both negative). I have no idea what is going on! What should I do?
