Speech Issues

My doctor is referring us to an audiologist and recommended speech therapy for my son. He has a large vocabulary but is hard to understand. The doctor said other people should be able to understand at least half of what he's saying and that's not the case. How is everyone else's little one doing with talking?

My dr said if my son didn't say 2 word phrases By 2.5 years old (which was on the second) he'd need speech therapy. That was Dec when he turned 2. Ee haven't Been for his appointment yet, I think he'll Be fine though he talks a lot now. Not as clear as we would like

Our evaluation was today. She basically said my doctor overreacted. He speaks better than most kids his age and canceled other evaluations he had planned. I'm happy he doesn't need it but a little upset we've gone to a ton of other appointments for nothing.

We started speech therapy in Jan due to we didn’t have but only 10 words. He had tubes put in his ears last summer and he couldn’t understand sounds when he was younger. He is catching up quickly though.

My son is getting speech therapy. He had his hearing tested as well but that was good. He’s just really delayed in his speech. He’s only had 1 session so far but I have noticed that little by little he’s starting to say more words, so hopefully with more therapies he’ll start talking a lot more. It’s frustrating for him and I to not be able to communicate but we’re on the right track. Good luck with your little one

For my daughter her doc had recommended an audiologist and emulation from an EI specialist (early intervention). The audiologists is to rule out any hearing issues. She barely qualified for EI because her receptive was so high but I pushed for it. I figured they could only help with her expressive language. This was at 16 months. She has been in it for a year now and just had her reevaluation and no longer qualifies. Having an EI come and play with her really help make the day feel a little shorter, give her a chance to see someone other than my mom all day long. I think EI has help her language.

We see the audiologist on the 14th, speech evaluation in 1 week. I will update everyone. I was just curious as to what others his age were doing.

I had a therapist from an AEA come a couple weeks ago to do an evaluation on my son (I questioned if he was behind for his age). He ended up being just barely behind on communication but not enough that she thought I needed to take him to therapy as I was already doing things at home that the therapists would have been doing. He has just started blooming more and speaking more- he really didn’t say very many words until just a couple weeks ago now he seems to be saying something new about everyday or something a few things in a day. I say it doesn’t hurt to go talk to professionals because if a LO needs assistance to be their best then so be it, early intervention is key!
