Question

When is the best time to introduce bottle? Looking to breastfeed for the most part but want to be able to also use a bottle when we want? Baby if 5 weeks old.

I did it at 4 weeks, because I was told to wait that long so he doesn’t get nipple confusion. Make sure someone else introduces the bottle because your baby might not take it from you at first. My baby pushed the bottle away from hubby at first 😂

We have started trying to introduce a bottle to my 2 month old and she will not take one. I go back to work in a month and we have tried different bottles. She will not even take a pacifier. Anyone else have this problem?

I did it right at the end of 4 weeks, that's what I was told by LC. We do it every 3-4 days for one feeding as it's just practice bottles till 8 weeks when its more as needed. My husband will do it for reasons already stated from others.

I introduced like day 3 because he couldn’t latch and needed to push eat. He was literally starving. Nipple confusion is a myth. He switches back and forth between my boobs and Avent and MAM bottles no problem.

We introduced a bottle at 2 weeks just so Dad could be involved in feeding. We started with just 1oz of breastmilk for the first couple of days and then slowly built it up to 3oz. Baby has one or two bottles a day now at 4 weeks. 
There’s been no nipple confusion or anything so far!

I introduced bottle week 1 because baby was jaundice and I needed to supplement formula during that time. Now I breastfed during the night and pump during the day so he gets bottle fed during day and boob at night and he does not have any nipple confusion. I think I got lucky there.

Ah yes, Stephanie raised a good point. Baby may refuse bottle from you as they can smell your milk!! It's a classic problem that people take a while to figure out! Have your SO give baby the bottle, ideally if you are not near but of course that's not necessarily palractical x

There is soooo much different conflicting advice out there!! The official advice from my midwife was to wait until breastfeeding is properly established, so about 6 weeks to avoid nipple confusion.
Saying that, for circumstances outside our control my boy had to take a bottle at ten days - he has had no problems switching from nipple, shield, sippy cup, and bottle.
I'd just say do it whenever fits in with you and your plans, baby will let you know if it's not the right time xx

Whenever you want. We gave her one at 3 weeks so I could have a break. She did just fine.
