Would you go to a gym that doesn’t allow you to wear only a sports bra?

Question

Today an employee at my gym told me to either leave or go put a shirt on. I was wearing high wasted leggings and a sports bra. She told another women the same thing, but this women got upset and said she wouldn’t be back. I complied and put a shirt on, but I was pissed too. That dude five feet away is wearing a tank that doesn’t even cover his nipples, yet here I am told to cover up? Should I even go back to this gym? Was just looking for some opinions.

I have a membership at planet fitness and there is a dress code there, but it's equally enforced among both genders and it's meant to prevent "gymtimidation" as they call it. Basically so people at the beginning of their fitness journey don't see people who are walking "after" photos and get discouraged/start feeling so self conscious they can't actually focus on their workout anymore. 
I would have an issue with a gym only enforcing a dress code on women and I would complain to upper management, or I would simply cancel my membership and find a new gym.

I know that planet fitness doesn’t allow anyone to work out without a shirt on, so I’m assuming that is also their policy. A tank top is still considered a shirt and if you wore a tank top that exposed your sports bra I’m sure that would be acceptable, as long as you had a shirt on. I would go back because wearing a shirt over your sports bra isn’t a big issue to me but that’s your choice to make. You’re using their equipment so it’s their rules.

There’s probably a dress code and when you signed up you agreed to it. A sports bra isn’t a shirt and that guy wearing a tank top technically had a shirt on so that’s probably why his attire was acceptable. Just find a gym with a dress code that allows what you want to wear.

Yes, a lot of gyms have a dress code, which is usually upheld with both genders, men and women can't be topless. I have no problems with that, if I want to workout in my sports bra then I do so in the privacy of my own home. I don't really see it being a big deal 💁 a lot of businesses have the "no shirt, no shoes, no business" policy.
