Treatment???

Question

So what is everyone using for treatment?  I have only been receiving treatment for 2 months and so far that has only included metformin and watching my carb intake. I am just curious what all everyone else has been doing to treat PCOS and what all has worked for those of you who have had success? Please post in the comments! I really appreciate everyone sharing, it is a definite moral booster to know I'm not alone and that success is possible! :)

I have PCOS, I was on Nuva ring for 7 years, been off since July because we are now TTC since July I have not had my time of the month once... Started on metformin 500mg this week. I've been on prenatals since July and I've also gained 15 lbs in these 2 months... I have been eating well, low carbs, no sugars and exercising... I just hope this regulates soon... I want to be a mother...

I have the IUD Skyla, I was on metformin for 2 years before I started ovulating again. I hadn't for over 10 years.

However the most helpful thing aside from Skyla was cutting out all soy, chia & flax seeds and beef/dairy products from cows treated with rbst. This has been the most effective treatment. We even got pregnant and stayed pregnant for 9 weeks with the IUD!! My husband and I consider each miscarriage a victory, for how long we made it, that my fallopian tubes have survived the ovarian cyst ruptures and that my eggs are crappy, but working!

I've been dealing with this disease since I was 9 and had my first period, and then I was formally diagnosed at 13 & put on the pill. My 2 favorite online resources are Soul Cysters and PCOS diva. Both  personal experiences coupled with peer reviewed research. PCOS diva even has a line of vitamins, supplements and food stuffs that are very PCOS friendly.

The following is my basic anecdote about my PCOS journey AND our fertility action plan!

I had my first period at 9 and was formally diagnosed at 13 and put on the pill. The OB at children's was rude and told me "Now Patty Anne, this is not a free license to have sex willy nilly." It took all I had not to gut check her. Instead I told her "Boys are gross, boys will always be gross. I am a child, and intend to remain ad such until I see fit. Madam." 
I went through 4-5 more OBs like that and I'd have to explain PCOS to them Then I met the last 2 OBs, the first one put me in metformin and mirena. It was amazing.
 Now I've been weened off metformin because the combination of the IUD Skyla coupled with cutting all soy, beef/dairy products from cows treated with rbst, as well as chia and flax seeds has helped me start ovulating again, reduced my hairiness and helped me drop 30 pounds in 6 months!! The most exciting development was that we got pregnant with the IUD and we made it to 9 weeks before I miscarried for the 3rd time. For us that is a HUGE VICTORY over PCOS and means that we may not even make it to the second phase of our fertility action plan! 
Fertility Action Plans are very important, even if you're not TTC PCOS is a whole body disease and treating it involves diet modifications, medications and careful monitoring of symptoms.
Our action plan is that I take Skyla out, and get back on metformin for 3 months, no trying. Then we try for 3 months with metformin, if there's no baby; I go in for even more extensive testing, and will probably be declared infertile.  We then add in a drug similar to Clomid for 3 more months. If that doesn't work we either do 2-3 rounds each of IVF, or surrogacy. And if there's still no baby then we'll just adopt the 3-4 children we've always wanted.

I was on metformin but it made me sick every day for 7 months so my doctor just put me on a victoza pen to inject in my belly every night and I'm also on birth control to have periods

I've been on metformin and progesterone for a year or so. Starting clomid this month!!!

I was just diagnosed two months ago as well! I was put on Ocella bc after being on LoLoestrin FE for three years, spironlactone 100 mg for the hirsutism/elevated testosterone, and metformin 1000 mg a day. So far, I haven't seen a huge difference, but I know I won't see anything for at least another 4 months with the spironlactone. I'm also trying to still figure out a good workout schedule for me since I'm at college and have had limited exposure to different workouts. 😕
