Do you need all the different sippy cups?

FTM and I was looking into sippy cups and I see they have all the different stage sippy cups. Do you actually need to buy all the different stages? I was looking at avent and tommee tippy sippy cups and they come in different transition stages. 
Just curious , is it actually needed? And what brand worked well for baby?

Someone told me that they skipped sippy cups altogether and went straight to regular straws. It was super handy because thier baby could drink smoothies from a store at 7 months. I guess she heard it was better for speech development down the road.

We went with the phases a little bit. I started with handle ones, then we found the Nuk sports cup that we used for a long time, then straw cups. She can drink fine out of a regular glass now.

We didn’t pay attention to stages.  We had spout types and straw types.  The straw types can be nice if they take them because then when they get older and you go somewhere like a restaurant where they get a cup with a straw, they know not to try to tip cups with straws in them.
My kids that had preferences preferred the squishy spouts - like the Nuk brand.

I found that my babies were fine with the ones with straws but not the 360 cups. Once they got older they started using everything. Now they use without handles as well. Anyway, a lot of mine broke or became nasty, so I always had the opportunity to change.

We started with the ones with handles and will transition to the ones without handles when she’s ready. Other than that, we’re not paying attention to stages.

We only needed 2 of any one size at a time. Get rid of the smaller ones when you get the bigger ones. No need to clutter your kitchen with unnecessary stuff.
