Spit up vs vomit

My 3 month old spits up all the time, usually after he eats. Just now he was nursing and then spit up pretty much everything. I think it was actual vomit because it was a little more forceful than usual and it was like 3-4 mouthfuls as opposed to a burp. He was to nurse more so I switched him to the other breast and he fell asleep. So I’m letting him sleep on me. When he wakes up I’m going to take his temperature (he doesn’t feel hot though). The doctors opens in 40 minutes so I can call but wanted to see if anyone had insight on here. My oldest never spit up or vomited so I’m not sure what action is necessary if a baby actually vomits instead of spits up.
