Disciplining One Year Old?

Question

How do you discipline a one year old? My LO is starting to not listen to anything I say... She's devopling her little personality but sometimes I'm telling her no to protect her (like when she trys to eat a wire that is plugged into the wall) but she does not listen until I get up but even then she just smiles and laughs like it's a game. I don't want her to develop a habit of not listening. What can I do?

Try redirection. They do better with distraction than being told “no” at that age. Of course you can keep telling her no, but give her something else to keep busy with, and make sure to baby proof. They are just exploring and not intentionally being “bad”.

Time out against the wall, take away a toy, a little tap on her butt or hands might help but some women here will call that abuse, idk

They aren’t mentally mature enough to understand discipline.  Best thing you can do is say “no” and physically redirect them to something else.  Time outs won’t be effective until they are two

You just have to stay consistent in whatever discipline you are doing. It will take a while for them to actually listen but keep doing it. I tell my son it isn’t safe and I explain why he could get hurt or what will happen, and will sometimes model myself doing it and getting hurt and he seems to understand better when I show him.

Babyproof your house. The more negative comments a child hears at a young age the more it effects the wiring of their brain. Offer your child an environment that she can safely explore and redirect her gently if she gets into something she shouldn't.

Don't give her an option to listen or not listen. She's not at an age yet where you can really get angry for that. Everytime you say no to an object, remove her from that object. Eventually she will associate no with removing herself.
