Rickey

My husband’s father passed away less than 6 months ago...

We recently found out we are expecting and at 12 weeks we’re told “likely” boy.

Today my husband said he would like the middle name to be the same as his Dad’s was even though he agrees it’s not a “great” name.

His name was James Rickey... and hated James and always went be Rick or Rickey. Not Richard, it was actually spelled Rickey on his birth certificate.

I told my husband that the name he shares with his grandpa is his last name! Which is pretty strong and this will be the only boy of his whole family.... he agreed but he’s also not in love with any names I’ve been suggesting... like my grandfathers name or other family names....

What would you do? Try to find alternatives that are close? Use a more formal version like Richard? ( to complicate things his step-dad is named Richard)
