If your child was allergic to your pet, would you sell the pet/give it away? 🐶👶🏻

Would your answer be different if it was just mild allergies? Like runny nose, etc? Just curious

No. Unless they were in anaphylactic shock all the time. I work for a rescue and the number of animals we get because someone’s child had a ‘mild allergy’ is infuriating.

I would look up EVERY alternative option first. just like my child our pets are family.

My pets are family but my child comes first no matter what. I would find a nice family for the animal.

My kids come first and I am not ashamed to admit I would give up my pets in a heartbeat if I had to. We currently have 2 cats, one is my companion animal Minerva. I love her and my 6 year old does too, we have had her since my daughter was 2.5
Lately Minerva has been scratching my daughter for no reason (we practice respecting boundaries and my kid understands if she doesn't than Minerva will scratch or bite). Like, hiding then pouncing, or scratching her face. If that continues she will have to go. Or if she scratches the baby, she is out. 
My 6 year old has asthma and I suspect she has also developed an allergy to cats, so I have to consider this going forward too. However she has some sensory issues and anxiety so doing the bloodwork to confirm will be traumatic.. the other cat we got last Jan, is a long hair (unlike Minerva) and I think that plays a big role in my daughter's breathing issues. My kiddo will be heartbroken, as would I and my husband, but being a parent means making hard choices in order to protect your family sometimes.

I really love my boyfriends dog but I couldn't have my baby living uncomfortable in her our home. I'd suggest giving him to a family member or friend so I can still see my fur baby

I thought about that when I had my kids and I would give my dog to my mom.  This dog is my everything but I know he would be happy there too. Luckily non of my kids are allergic to him.

if the kid was old enough to decide if they wanted to i wouldn’t be against allergy shots, but if for some reason that wasn’t possible or they didn’t want to i would find a very good home for the animal.

I LOVE my pets so this is the thing. It was a bad anxiety for me as my cousins, nephews on my husbands side and his brother all have allergies to dogs. I was afraid my daughter would. My pediatrician told me chances are my daughter would do fine and she has. Though if ever she shows signs of allergies I would have to cut out ALL her family and rehome my dogs. In my family there isnt a single gome without dogs so my child couldnt go to her grandparents aunts or uncle's... I got lucky she has 2 dogs she LOVES and a long haired maine coon cat and no signs of allergies.
