Can birthmarks change from purple to brown?

My daughter developed what I thought was a bruise at 6 weeks, it turned brown and then never went away, and now she’s almost 4 months. She has no other spots or bruising, her doctor says probably just a birthmark. Can they change color like that, start purple and turn brown?

Yes. My son had ones that was mostly red now it's dark brown

My daughter was born with a tiny red dot on her right butt cheek and a red rashy like mark on the back of her head. They didnt go away and I was concerned about the rash on her head and the doctor made me sit down and really look at it and then when I was shaving hubby's head due to the heat I noticed he had the same exact mark on his head. So I asked her doctor and he looked at them both and said its a birth mark. I guess they come in all sorts of colors,shapes ect.
