When it comes to giving birth...

Question

Sorry if this is a silly question but I have no idea what happens family-wise when it comes to contractions/labour/giving birth. 
My hubby will of course be with me in the room when it comes to the birth but what about during labour? For example, can I have my mum with me too through the contractions/labour? And then I’d want her to be at the hospital and meet baby and not have to wait until we go home? Can people come and go?! 
What will/have you all do/done? And then there’s the MIL to consider too... I’m not bothered about her being around for the labour or anything so is it normal for MILs to wait to meet baby?

I read something before about etiquette that the maternal grandmother should he the first to meet baby after parents obviously. I'm just having my husband with me, but I'm probably a bit unusual in that I don't want to be I inundated with visitors after either xx

As for during its upto you and the hospitals policy. Usually it’s 2 birth partners max. After its upto you who does what in terms of meeting the baby but sometimes the hospital has strict visitation rules too. If you’re self conscious have a shave a pedi and make yourself feel nice because either way a room full of people are going to be looking at your hoohah and you’re probably going to poop

For a normal delivery in most uk hospitals your allowed 2 ppl with you from labour through to delivery. Then they go home whilst your put on the ward. For c section its just one person in theater but your mum can stay and wait in room. Visitors can come see you at visiting hours when on ward. Ppl might correct me if wrong. During both my births i was able to skype my mum as she lives in canada. I had my husband and friend for support.

Em...depending on what you're having done either vaginal birth or c section... you can get kicked out after 6 hours. Lol. C section they have you in longer but a vaginal birth you can go after 6 hours lol. No time for visitors and tbh you'll be knackered to see them. I didnt have any one round until the weekend. I gave birth before 1am on a Thursday, and people came "parents" on Saturday/Sunday. Others were during the week. From what I saw there was only a two person limit in the birthing room. And 1 person for theatre. You can find out everything by phoning your midwife and they can get you a ward midwife to call you to go through any worries. If you're being induced, you wont want anyone there apart from your OH. Your "parents" dont need to be there. It's a special time between you and your OH. So if they go in a huff, tuff. It's your labour, your decision mama!

Yea I was told two people during your birth if you’d want it and normally only two visitors at once during visiting hours. I had my daughter at 4.30 pm and two people care to see us but had to leave at 9 (they let them stay an hour more as I was the only person there)
