Hyphenating baby’s last name??

So my boyfriend and I are expecting and are due in November.. Yesterday his mom said she’s excited to have another person with their last name and I couldn’t help but to start thinking.. I really want to hyphenate our baby’s last name. My boyfriend said he’s perfectly fine with it, especially since when we get married later on I plan to hyphenate my last name as well. My question is, does it matter which last name is first? It’d be either Moore-Bennett or Bennett-Moore.. (Mine is Moore, his is Bennett). We are for sure hyphenating the baby’s name, we’re just not sure what order it should be in.

I would think Moore-Bennett but I'm not sure. I think most people put their maiden name first.

I like the sound of Bennett-Moore better than the other way around, so it doesn't sound like you're asking for additional bennett.

Traditionally, when you hyphenate, it's maiden-married.
With a baby's last name, it's traditionally dad-mom. Because then technically kids' names start the same as dad.
I personally don't see the point though because then you'll inevitably have a different last name than your kids, which defeats the purpose. So if it were me personally, I'd break tradition and reverse the order, or just keep your maiden name as your middle name and put your maiden name as your kids' middle name (they can have 2 middle names if you'd like)

When you hyphenate your name, won’t it be Moore-Bennett because of maiden then married order? So, I would give your child the same order as you plan to go with.
