Getting blood drawn for the first time?!

Sooo I’m almost 20 and have never had my blood drawn before 😂 for some reason I’ve just never had to but nowww I have to get it done in about two weeks. Blood and needles make me sick. I watched my mom get hers drawn and I seriously almost threw up and fainted. IM SERIOUSLY TERRIFIED I know I sound like a baby but I’m looking for some advice to help me not faint puke or cry when getting my blood drawn no hate pleaseee ❤️

It’s never as bad as I think it will be! The worst part is waiting in the waiting room cuz you get stressed and scared but it literally only takes like 45 seconds and just feels like a pinch. Make sure to look away in the other direction and try to think of something else to distract yourself. I’m squeamish too so I hate the thought of blood and needles but it’s never as bad as I hype it up to be. The people who do it are trained and do it every day, all day. Theyre so good at their job, and will make it as quick and painless as possible. Mention when you sit down that you’ve never done it before and are nervous and they’ll help calm you down! Good luck, don’t stress yourself out too much!

Hey there! I use to have the same problem. It just feels like a quick pinch. Don't look at it, look the other way. If you feel like you will faint have them give you a alcohol packet to smell but it's not really a big deal. It's super quick. You will be just fine! Oh some other advice because you are new at it and I'm sure you don't wanna be poked over and over again but if there is a trainee wanting to do it on you, please decline because they do happen to miss the vein a lot and then have to keep repoking you. I don't mind because im so use to the pokes by now so I'll let them try but if you have a trainee do it, it could scare you and you may not want it done anymore. Usually when they miss I just ask for someone else because not gonna lie, that is a little uncomfortable. Lol.

It’s actually not as bad as you think it would be. For me, it was actually less painful than a flu shot. I think the best thing to do is to look away and focus on something else and try not to think about it!

I like to really focus on the lyrics of a song I like while they’re doing it. Or talk to the nurse if they’re up for that, really anything to distract you helps a ton!

It’s not too bad. Just don’t watch if it makes you sick.
Stay as relaxed as you can as tensing your muscles can make it hurt worse.
