Induced?

Question

Other than some woman HAVING to be induced due to medical reasons... can one ask to be induced if baby isnt out by 39 weeks? I am curious. Or at exactly 40 weeks?

You can always ask. Whether or not they will is another story. But keep in my induction brings risks and usually heightens your chances of medical interventions so I wouldn't if it's not necessary. Try natural ways of inducing labor first. But stay clear of castor oil

It depends on how good the maternity care is where you live. In most European countries with good maternity care, they would not induce that early (most start thinking about it at 41 weeks) if there is no medical reason as research suggests that it’s perhaps not the best thing to do if you aren’t trying to mitigate health risks. Even in the USA the ACOG is against inducing before 41 weeks if there’s no medical need and yet loads of doctors seem to ignore this and do it anyway. If you’re having a healthy pregnancy then an induction adds a slight extra risk that’s only worthwhile if you’re getting rid of other risks :) x

I am having a healthy pregnancy at 39 weeks 5 days, my doctor won’t let me go past 41 weeks and scheduled an induction date for 40wks 5 days just in case I don’t go naturally before then. She won’t induce any sooner

Unless there are problems I don’t think so. Or at least it wouldn’t be recommended. Your body hasn’t gone into labour for a reason which would usually mean it isn’t ready, and once the induction process has started they won’t be like “oh okay nevermind let’s leave it” if it doesn’t work, which could lead to much more invasive interventions. 
I went in at the weekend for reduced movements - baby was fine and the heart monitor read out was perfect, seems she was just having a lazy day, and they offered to induce me. I didn’t want to though as I was only 38+5 at that point and thought if she was ready to come out she would’ve done!

If you're referring to elective induction at exactly 39 weeks and no later than 40 weeks, then it's totally doable but depends on your doctor. I'm getting and elective induction at 39+4 which will be next Tuesday. I hope this helped. Praying for a safe delivery 🥰

I didn’t have medical problems with my first and was able to be induced at 39 week. I’m also getting induced this time around with my second son at 39 weeks. We will be having him Thursday! So, yes.. depending on your doctor. Mine won’t do it any earlier than 39 weeks tho.

I’m being induced this Friday at 39 weeks exactly. I have bilateral carpal tunnel that is getting worse every day. We already did steroid injections but it didn’t help. The pain is starting to get unbearable and I can’t even grip with my right hand.

We planned to induce at 39w due to back pain.  Still medical, but dr said it’s full term so I think it would have been fine if 100% elective.  At 34w I could barely walk due to sciatica, then induced at 36+4 due to pre eclampsia.  So glad to be done and home w my little burrito man!
