Changing a navel piercing that has hypergranulation tissue?
I got my navel pierced exactly 8 weeks ago, and at first, the healing process was going extremely well. I was cleaning it the recommended 2-3 times per day with the recommended Saline Salt Wound Wash solution.
At about five weeks, I went to change the ball and noticed a large red lump under my navel at the site of the piercing. I initially talked to my piercer who had no clue what it was and offered to remove it. For a second opinion, I went to my family doctor who concluded that it was a minor infection and gave me a Vaseline based ointment to apply for a week. After that didn't work, I went back and they placed me onto an oral antibiotic for another week. Still isn't gone. I'm pretty sure after doing some research that it is hypergranulation tissue. I have all the same signs. But the piercing itself seems to be healed. Would I be okay if I changed the ring?
