Iron drops for 1 month old?

My daughters pediatrician told me today at her one month check up to start giving her 1ml of either a multivitamin with iron or iron drops (polvi... something). She is breastfed with no formula.
I thought it was a prescription so I thought nothing of it until I got home and saw it’s over the counter.
She didn’t have bloodwork done today, last time she had any done was a few days old for jaundice. I was on iron pills when pregnant due to low iron, and I was/is taking a prenatal. 
Just curious if  anyone else’s pediatricians recommended this at such a young age?

Does your daughter have a medical condition or bloods shown to be low in Iron? If not, I would question the need for extra iron at this age. 
My son was on it for a medical condition and it is really hard on their tummy. It caused severe constipation in him and lots of tummy cramps. 
Breastmilk is designed to have everything a healthy baby needs (especially if you are healthy and eating a balanced diet). 
It might be worth just questioning this with your doctor.

My LO was a preemie born at 26 weeks.  Shes 14 weeks old now and she is on iron supplements due to anemia of prematurity.  Thankfully, she did not require a blood transfusion.

My son took vitamin d at that age. At a year he started taking iron after a blood test. Iron is so hard on his stomach. I would worry giving it to a 1 month old.

I saw online that some doctors recommend iron to breastfed babies. My baby is taking vitamin d supplements but that’s all. I asked my pediatrician last week at my sons 2 month appointment if iron was necessary and he said no, their iron stores last until up to a year and they’d check his iron levels closer to a year and see from there. 🤷🏼‍♀️

No, my son just had vitamin d because he was jaundice a little at birth.

That seems strange to me. I was also on iron while pregnant and stopped after I gave birth. Even when checked my daughter’s iron levels at 9 months they were still normal and we never had to give her iron drops
