Something my husband and I did with our first and are doing now that we’re trying for #2 is to start a gift card with money for diapers. Instead of buying a ton of boxes (which you hope your kid won’t react to) we put money on a gift card for target every week or two. It was great to not have to worry about having too many of one size but already have the money saved for it.

Pretty much once your ready to start. Fair warning, don’t buy too many “newborn” clothes. They’ll grow out of them very quickly. 
We’re due in December, but this next weekend we’re going to start our research on brands/baby supplies. Then start creating a baby registry. After the baby shower, we’ll start “buying everything else we need”. But since it’s due in December, we’re going to get it on Black Friday.
