DEPO shot side effects

I’m supposed to be in my period but I haven’t had any spotting or anything it’s my first shot since I got off of bc 4 years ago. Today I used my finger to clean my vagina and it had a very light brown discharge and smelled like pennies or like blood...is this my period orrrr an infection?
